License.
Dated 28 September 2026.
Venutian is proprietary software. It is licensed to you, not sold, and it is distributed first party from venutian.org, not through any open source repository.
What this license is
When you download and install Venutian, you are not buying a copy of it the way you might buy a book. You are given permission to use it, on the terms below. Venutian and everything in it, including the compiler, the virtual machine, the standard library, the tooling, the 113 standard packages, and the documentation, remains the property of the people who build it.
This is closed source software. The source code is not published, and nothing in this license, or anywhere on this site, grants you a right to see it, copy it, or treat it as open source.
What you can do
You are welcome to:
- install Venutian on your own machines and servers
- write, run, and distribute your own programs written in Venutian
- build products, services, and businesses on top of software you write in Venutian
- keep a personal backup copy of the Venutian distribution you downloaded, so you are not stuck if you lose your original download
What you cannot do
This license does not give you permission to do any of the following, and doing them anyway ends your right to use Venutian:
- redistribute the Venutian interpreter, compiler, runtime, or any of its binaries as your own, under a different name, or repackaged as part of another tool
- publish, mirror, or resell Venutian itself, in source or compiled form, anywhere other than its official first party distribution
- remove or alter any copyright notice, trademark, or attribution that ships with Venutian
- reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble Venutian beyond what the law in your country expressly allows, regardless of this license
- describe Venutian as open source, or claim rights to its source code that this license does not grant
- circumvent any technical measure Venutian uses to control access to itself
Ownership
Venutian, its source code, its design, and its name and marks belong to the people who make it. Nothing in this license transfers any of that ownership to you, no matter how you use the software.
No warranty
Venutian is provided as is. We work hard to make it solid, but we cannot promise it will be free of bugs, or that it will always behave exactly as you expect. You use it at your own risk, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damages arising from that use.
Packages are different
This license covers Venutian itself: the language, the compiler, the runtime, the 113 standard packages, and the official tooling. It does not cover packages published by other people through the marketplace, when it opens. Those are covered separately, in the marketplace terms.
Changes and questions
We may update this license as Venutian grows. If we do, the new version appears on this page, dated at the top. If anything here is unclear, reach the team through the community page and we will answer plainly.
