vcompression-audit

Which compression codecs are live, checked with a real round trip.

Released v1.0.0 · 2026-09-28
Import
use "stdlib/compression_audit.ven"

Checks every compression builtin the interpreter offers, such as deflate, gzip, bz2 and lzma, with a real round trip call, so a program can ask which codecs are live on the virtual machine it runs under.

API reference

owner(name, owner_file, live, status)

Builds one implementation-ownership registry entry as a Map.

map_get(owner("deflate_compress / inflate_decompress", "builtins", yes, "live: round-tripped"), "name")

codec_roundtrip_probe(codec_name, compress_fn, decompress_fn)

Round-trips a fixed sample string through compress_fn then decompress_fn and reports whether this VM actually recovered it.

map_get(codec_roundtrip_probe("deflate", _deflate_c, _deflate_d), "live")

crc32_probe()

Proves crc32_checksum is live and deterministic on this VM.

map_get(crc32_probe(), "live")

compression_owners()

length(compression_owners())

compression_audit_summary()

Reduces the full registry down to a plain {"total": N, "live": M} Map.

map_get(compression_audit_summary(), "total")

compression_audit_report()

length(split_text(compression_audit_report(), "\n"))
